Teho is a grip wax that is designed to be used in conditions where more grip is needed than regular or fluoro grip wax, but less than klister. Teho has a wide temperature range, but the use is governed by snow humidity and shape. Below is additional information provided by Vauhti, the manufacturer of Teho. Some editing has been done for clarity.
Teho Violet grip wax is always applied in thin layers. The grip of Teho waxes, especially of Violet and Blue, is substantially better than the grip of conventional grip waxes. The glide of Teho grip waxes is good when applied in a thin layer; just enough wax to give sufficient grip. If applied in too thick layer the glide will decrease dramatically.
Teho Violet can be used by itself or it can be used as a top coat on other Teho grip waxes or klisters. Its excellent durability also enables it to be used as a base binder under other grip waxes. When used in this way, pay attention to the thickness of Teho layer. Teho Violet must be applied in a substantially thinner layer than other base binders.
Violet Teho can be used from a temperature of 0°C and colder provided that the snow is thoroughly coarse. In mild temperatures, above 0°C, Violet loses it's grip when the snow becomes so humid that it is easy to make a snowball; you will want to move to a klister. Violet does not work on new, finely grained or old snow. A caveat to this is when the track has been used a lot, the track is "rock hard" and there is no loose snow in the track.
Teho Blue is a medium hard grip wax for coarse grained snow. Like Teho Violet, Blue Teho grip wax has to be applied in a thin layer. Blue Teho is at its best by itself on coarse snow in temperatures of -3°C and colder when the snow humidity is high, the snow is grainy and loose, and the track is partly icy and glazed. Blue Teho is also excellent when used as a base binder (the first thin layer under other waxes) when there is need to improve the grip of conventional or fluoro grip waxes.
Teho Blue is also an excellent grip wax for man-made indoor snow (for example the ski tunnel in Vuokatti, Finland), when the snow in the tunnel is several days old, it has already slightly moistened and it has been machine groomed a few times. Right after snow making, Teho Blue has too much grip by itself. In these conditions Teho Blue must be applied in a thin layer and covered with either Violet or Orange (Carrot) Fluoro grip wax.
Teho Green has a much wider operating range than the other two Teho grip waxes. It can be used on humid new snow in temperatures from around the freezing point down to -8°..-10°C. In old and coarse snow, the wax is effective from above zero down to the coldest temperatures.
Since Violet and Blue Teho grip waxes are applied in a thin layer it is very difficult for snow crystals to penetrate deeply into them. This is a special characteristic of Teho waxes. When there is a need to apply Teho waxes as a thicker layer, for example in fine loose coarse snow or on soft track, Teho Green can be used very well as a basewax for the other two Teho grips. It can form a fairly thick base layer which can be then covered with a very thin layer of either Violet or Blue Teho grip wax depending the conditions. This waxing technique improves the glide tremendously and also gives superior grip when compared with other grip wax alternatives in these conditions. (Note: Violet and Blue Teho grip waxes cannot be applied in thicker layers because of their great gripping ability.)
Teho Green can also be used as a base binder under all other grip waxes. Green Teho grip wax can be used in substantially more humid conditions than normal base binders, because it grips much better. It is an especially good alternative when it is difficult to decide whether to use a klister or base binder as the base wax. For example in conditions when there is moist, coarse, abrasive snow and in some areas new or fine grained drier snow on the track, Green Teho's grip does not freeze. It does notfreeze even with new snow when used by itself except in very exceptional circumstances.
Apply Teho Green as the first (always thin) bottom layer in humid, new and fine grained snow conditions, when there is need to improve the grip of other grip waxes.
Teho Green is applied in the same way as conventional grip waxes. We recommend thinner layers in comparison to conventional or fluoro grip waxes.
There are two methods below. Read both beforehand to decide which method will siut your needs best.
Do not peel off part of the aluminium container as you would do with other grip waxes. Leave the container whole. The best way to apply Teho Violet or Blue is to place the container on a fireproof surface and warm the surface lightly with a heat gun or a hair dryer so that the surface of the wax starts to liquify. Use your finger, spatula or a corner of a clean acrylic scraper to take small amounts of the wax from the container and drop small amounts of the wax evenly on the kick zone. After you have applied a sufficient amount of wax on the base smooth it out in the same way as a klister. Re-warm the wax on the kick zone and use your thumb or a spatula to smooth it to a thin layer.
If you apply Teho Violet or Blue directly from the container like other soft grip waxes, we recommend that you cool down and harden the wax first in the freezer or outside in the cold snow. The hardened wax is easier to apply in thin layer on the ski base.
Your skis will be ready to use after the wax has cooled down.Peel back and tear off aluminium of the container only when it becomes too difficult to get wax using the above method. Do as follows: Let the wax harden first in the freezer or outside in the cold, then peel and cut off the aluminium neatly.
Applying Violet and Blue Teho wax is clearly more difficult than applying conventional or fluoro grip waxes. However it is straighforward, if you have klister waxing experience. Vauhti does not recommend use of Teho Violet or Teho Blue for people who do not have advanced grip waxing experience.
