Important Update: Changes to U.S. Import Rules

Navigating the New U.S. Import Rules: What the De Minimis Closure Means for Your International Shipments

Due to recent U.S. policy changes that close the de minimis loophole (effective August 29, 2025), all international shipments to the U.S.—including those from our Canadian warehouse—are now subject to import duties and taxes, regardless of the shipment's value. Previously, low-value packages (under $800) were eligible for duty-free entry, but this is no longer the case. As a result, packages may incur additional fees upon arrival in the U.S.

What to Expect:

Shipment Terms: Packages ship DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid)

Customs Clearance: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will review packages at the border. This process is usually quick, but could add 1-3 days in rare cases.

Estimated Fees: Duties and taxes are calculated based on the order's value, item type (using HS codes), and origin. A state sales tax may apply, as well as the carrier's fee for brokering your parcel and other applicable fees. CBP and your carrier will determine the exact amount. Use this estimator at https://tariffs.flexport.com/ to get an idea of the approximate duty.

How to Pay Duties and Taxes:

Since we're shipping DDU, it is the customer's responsibility to pay these fees directly to the carrier. Here's what happens:

The carrier (e.g., USPS, UPS) will notify you via email/text when your package is ready for clearance, including the exact fee amount. CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER so you don't miss this notification. Also, carefully follow the tracking of your parcel once you receive a tracking number from us in a future email.

Payment Options: Pay online via the carrier's portal (credit/debit card), at their facility, or upon doorstep delivery (cash/check, where available).

No payment = package held until resolved.

Once paid, your package is released—often same-day.

We're committed to making your experience as seamless as possible under the circumstances, given that importing international goods into the U.S. has become much more inefficient. If you have questions, our team is standing by, just message us in the online store chat.
