Four Skiwax.ca Athletes and Coaches Named to Canada's World University Winter Games Team

The Canadian cross-country ski team will include twelve student-athletes from schools across Canada. These skiers were selected through events held in Vernon, BC (Sovereign Lakes Ski Club) and Cantley, QC (Nakkertok Ski Club) this month. Skiwax.ca is excited to have two coaches qualify for this team, plus two athletes we coach on the team.

FISU 2023 - Lake Placid, NY

The 2023 FISU winter games will be held in Lake Placid, New York, from January 12 to 22, 2023. Cross-Country Skiing is one of the twelve winter sports in these games. The event will bring 1,500 student-athletes will represent 50 countries and 600 universities. This is a big international sporting event and highly competitive. In conjunction with the games, the Save Winter Initiatives, a movement to unite all of us who love winter to work as one to save the season of snow, will host a conference. Additionally, the event organizer has included many environmental sustainability initiatives. One of these is the FISU games cauldron. Traditionally this central symbol of international games is an open flame. For these games, the cauldron will be lit by 150 LED-computer technology. Inside the Games reports that the Lake Placid "upgraded infrastructure includes high-efficiency snowmaking, hybrid snow groomers and electric Zambonis, LED technology, new cooling systems and industrial refrigeration improvements, salt-use reduction and solar arrays."

Leading up to the lighting of the cauldron on 12 January 2023 is the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games Torch Relay Celebration.
