One wax system for every condition

SNOOW's simplified waxing system reduces the number of waxes you need by focusing on blending waxes and adding simple modifiers, so you can create the perfect blend for the day's snow conditions directly on your ski base.

The ECO RACE line is their World Cup-level tier, and ECO CORE is their training-grade tier. They are the official ski wax sponsor for Team Ramudden, a Ski Classics long-distance team, and these formulas come from two seasons of product development with them.

Three dimensions of glide waxing

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Snow age

Temperature Dimension

SNOOW makes waxes for four temperature ranges: Warm, Mid, Cold and X-Cold. Pick the wax that covers the snow temperature. Blend two when the temperature approaches the edge of the range.

Humidity Dimension

Dry snow needs a harder wax, such as powders and melt waxes, to perform. Use a gel or liquid top coat finish, and blend in some X-Wet modifier when the snow is humid or wet.

Snow Age Dimension

New snow needs no modifier. Old and dirty snow needs the Transform modifier, which adds dirt repellence and cuts static. Abrasive, crystallized and very cold snow requires the Green hardener.

How a wax application goes together

A race base starts with a melt wax for the day's temperature range. SNOOW makes four temperature ranges: Warm, Mid, Cold and X-Cold.

"Additives" tune the base and are usually blended in and ironed at the same time as the race-base melt wax. Green hardens the base for aggressive snow. Transform adds dirt repellence in old snow. X-Wet handles sloppy, wet, plus-temperature snow.

The top finish goes on last. Use a powder, liquid, gel, or wool-apply block to achieve ultimate glide!

How to mix

Mix waxes when you want to tune your wax for race day. The melted waxes and additives are mixed directly on the ski base before ironing them in at the same time.

Use SNOOW's snow selection form to learn the best blends. Answer three questions about temperature, snow age and humidity. It returns a suggested mix, the tools and the top finish coats across 54 combinations.

Questions

Is the whole SNOOW line really fluoro-free?

Yes. Every SNOOW wax is made without fluorocarbons. You can feel secure using them in FIS races.

Which line do I want, ECO RACE or ECO CORE?

ECO CORE is the training line for day-to-day use. ECO RACE is for race day.

Which form should I buy, liquid, gel, block, powder or melt wax?

Melt waxes are for the base layer. Iron the base layer using the best product blend for the snow conditions. The top finishes- liquid, gel, block and powder- go over the ironed-on base layer. Powder is the race-day finish.

How do I pick a wax for today?

Use the SNOOW mixing guide found here: https://snoow.tech/pages/mixing-guide

What if the temperature swings during the day?

Wax your skis for the coldest temperature you will encounter. It's far less risky to wax too cold than too warm. If time allows, apply a layer of warmer liquid or gel when snow temperatures rise.

Do I need a powder to go fast?

No. A well-waxed base with a liquid or gel, or wool-apply block top finish is usually what will give you the fastest possible skis. Powders are for long-distance outings of more than 15km.

How do I know which snow type I am skiing on?

Use a snow thermometer to measure snow temperature and a hygrometer to measure humidity. Generally, if the snow is 2-3 days old or has gone through a freeze/thaw, you can consider it "old snow." Artificial snow is always "old snow". SNOOW does not publish a snow-type chart. Their Race Mixing Guide asks three questions about snow conditions and recommends a wax blend.
